About Attorney Wukovits
I am Attorney Steven F Wukovits and am passionate about helping individuals in the community like you. If you have a legal need, I will provide strategic guidance to get you through the matter from start to finish.
I was primarily raised in Union, New Jersey, and I graduated from Seton Hall University. I was awarded a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School in 1987. I am admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of New Jersey.
From 1989 to 1994, I served as an Assistant Essex County Prosecutor and Special Deputy Attorney General. During my time as a prosecutor, I gained extensive litigation experience prosecuting a wide range of criminal cases in the New Jersey Superior Court.
In 1995, I was designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney. As the principal litigator of the firm’s Federal and State criminal defense work, I was reappointed as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney in July 2002. It is a distinction that I am proud to carry today.
As a New Jersey SUPER LAWYER Selectee, I presently handle complex, serious state & federal criminal cases including murder, assault, drug trafficking, sexual assault, fraud, and official misconduct. My current law firm, Triarsi Betancourt Wukovits & Dugan, first established 50 years ago by the renowned Joseph T. Triarsi, Esq., also handles municipal matters (including DWI offenses), restraining orders in the New Jersey Superior Court, as well as appeals and PCR applications. Not everyone charged with a crime is guilty and sometimes, even the best of people make mistakes. My aim is to provide the best legal representation available as a criminal case can completely alter one’s life.
I am also engaged in civil litigation including personal injury, workers compensation and select family law matters.

What is attorney certification, and how can attorney certification help clients looking for competent representation in particular areas of law?
“Finding the right attorney is to the benefit of both you and the attorney you choose. That is why the Supreme Court of New Jersey has directed the Board on Attorney Certification to administer the attorney certification program in an effort both to protect consumers from false advertising and to raise the level of competence of attorneys in this State. This program is designed to help you make an informed decision when seeking and selecting a lawyer.
The Board on Attorney Certification was established by the Supreme Court of New Jersey in 1980 for the purpose of helping consumers find attorneys who have a recognized level of competence in particular fields of law. Attorneys may be designated by the Supreme Court as ‘certified attorneys’ if they: are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge and skill in a specific area of law or practice; have passed a rigorous examination; and have been recognized by their peers as having sufficient skills and reputation in the designated specialty.
The Supreme Court, through recommendation by the Board, certifies attorneys in five areas: civil trial law, criminal trial law, matrimonial law, municipal court law, and workers’ compensation law.
An attorney must meet the following requirements to become certified:
- has been a member in good standing of the New Jersey Bar for at least five years;
- has taken a specific number of continuing legal education courses in the three years prior to filing an application
- demonstrates substantial involvement in preparation of litigated matters;
- demonstrates an unblemished reputation by submitting a list of attorneys and judges who will attest to the applicant’s character and ability; and passes a written examination covering various aspects of practice in the designated specialty.”
